Walking the walk.

You have to walk everywhere on Lamma Island--there are no cars allowed. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Rita & Sadie's house from the ferry dock. Here are Ann, Rita, & Sadie on the main pathway of Yung Shue Wan village. Turning left, they head into the outlying neighborhoods. Just outside of the village is a beautiful vegetable garden. You can buy directly from the farmers on your way home.

The way we usually walks means taking lots of stairs. Sadie likes to take the stairs herself. No one offers to carry me.

Further adventures

This is a typical neighborhood on Lamma Island. The pathway that the public uses can often be right by people's front doors.

Ann found this child's kitchen in a trashpit on the island. She cleaned it up and put it on the roof of their house where Sadie likes to cook in the morning!

Sadie took to her Mopi with lightning speed. It provides both indoor and outdoor transportation.

Morning walk

Yesterday we took a beautiful walk to a beach. On a hill above the beach was a pagoda. At the end of our walk we came to a fishing village. One house boat had a garden on its deck. Another boat, a Dragon Boat had a small shrine built on it. The weekend before, there had been Dragon Boat races and I guess a shrine can help your boat in a race. The races were in celebration of TinHau the goddess of the sea. (Not sure about the spelling.) After our walk we stopped at a juice bar where Sadie had fresh orange juice and I had pineapple-mango juice. Delicious

Today I am going to Rita's school to help in an art class.

Back from School.

We pick up Rita after school and take the ferry back to Lamma Island. While we were waiting for Rita's bus, some Chinese people from the mainland gathered around Ann and Sadie and took Sadie's picture. Then I took some pictures of them. It's a steep climb back to the house.

Day in the Life of Rita & Sadie

I am on Ann's Mac and I can't figure out how to edit but here's the morning routine, pictured in reverse order. Rita gets up around 5:30 am.  She catches a video while eating her breakfast. She has a great pink and white checked shirt for her school uniform. She and Max leave the house in time to take the Yung Shue Wan ferry to Hong Kong where Rita meets her school bus.
